"Did you know that at one point Columbia was producing more officers per year than the Naval academy"
Is that the "change" you want?
VOTE NO ON ROTC
vote no on a militaristic campus
Our military history is an important piece of Columbia's history about which we can be proud. We need to value our history and our classmates who would choose military service and recognize that they are serving or have served our country and every American. Many students in Columbia's past served and this December, Columbia University is unveiling a war memorial that will honor those Columbians who gave their lives in service to the United States. Let's make military service an option to Columbia students as it is an important part of our country.
What would we expect if ROTC did return to Columbia now? The best way to get a sense of what to expect is to look at other comparable institutions that have ROTC, such as MIT, Princeton and Johns Hopkins. These institutions are not militaristic, in fact the presence of ROTC is barely felt. What ROTC provides is students with different views, experiences, and expectations of activities in coming years.
