National ROTC Coverage: 2020
- 21 February 2020 Harvard Crimson article "DSO Appoints New Manager for Military Student Services". Note: The newly created position "will act as a liaison to Army, Navy, and Air Force ROTC students and others interested in serving in the military". The article also erroneously states that "in 1969, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences voted to strip ROTC of its extracurricular status". What in fact happened was that the faculty voted to change the status to extracurricular, thereby violating the terms of the ROTC Vitalization Act of 1964 ((Part 1 Part 2), as discussed in a 1969 Crimson article.
- 27 March 2020 Harvard Crimson article "Harvard College Admits 4.92 Percent of Applicants to Class of 2024". Note: "The number of admitted students who previously served in the military or indicated an interest in ROTC also grew. This year’s class admitted students include 13 veterans and 47 students interested in ROTC, an increase from six veterans and 41 ROTC prospects last year.
Fitzsimmons said in a Wednesday interview that he believes veterans bring a valuable perspective to campus.
“The difference the veterans make in terms of their interaction with fellow undergraduates is absolutely priceless. We certainly hope that we’re going to see the continued increases,” Fitzsimmons said."
